23-Year-Old Full Proof Blended Trinidad Rum In 1936, it was acquired by the Tate & Lyle company, which utilized it as a foundation to expand its subsequently significant sugar operations in Trinidad. Sadly, Tate & Lyle ceded a 51% controlling stake to the government in 1970 when the Trinidadian sugar economy began to deteriorate, and it was only fully nationalization in 1975.
Their legendary CEO, Luca Gargano, discovered the shuttered distillery in 2004 while visiting Trinidad for a photo shoot and arranged a deal for some of its shares in 2005. In addition to his initial cask strength collaborations with Demerara Distillers Ltd, which included the immensely significant Skeldon bottlings, he also issued eight Caroni bottlings that year.
This year was significant because it not only altered the rum industry but also gave rise to the legendary position that Caroni rum presently enjoys among collectors and connoisseurs. This was Velier’s 38th Caroni release and their penultimate one in this current bottle of Trinidadian Caroni 23-Year-Old Full Proof rum.
